Jake

Jacob Barnett 20 years has an IQ (IQ = 170) higher than Einstein’s, he is a particular boy, in all senses, and his story is no less. When his parents took him to school, he was told that his son would never be able to learn anything. In fact, a doctor soon diagnosed him with autism. This would have limited him and he would have been able to learn only simple tasks, perhaps not even tying his shoes.

But the case of Jacob is unbelievable. Because instead he learned the entire high school mathematics program in just 2 weeks. The parents discovered that the son had an incredible memory.

At just 3 years Jacob was able to put together a puzzle of 5,000 pieces and to memorize the state road map remembering all the highways, at 8 years Jacob left high school to attend astrophysics at Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis; at the age of 9 Jacob began to elaborate his original astrophysical theory on relativity, an alternative to Einstein’s.

At the age of 12 he became a researcher in quantum physics at the Perimeter Institute for Advanced Theoretical Physics in Waterloo (Ontario), Canada, where he still works, this was not at all conceivable when Jacob was diagnosed with severe autism at two years old ( probably wrong, ed) and mother Kristine was told that her son would never be able to talk, read or even tie his shoes.

Today Jacob is 20, is about to complete his doctorate in quantum physics, is a researcher at Purdue University in Indianapolis and has several scientific publications in his curriculum, experts believe that one day he will win the Nobel prize. Jake is still in time to surprise us!

Autism is a condition that begins in early childhood, which usually involves serious disabilities in the development of social interactions and communication, people with this condition can have a different range of abilities, from being totally disabled to being strongly endowed. It is estimated that one out of every 150 individuals is autistic. Asperger: a syndrome similar to autism, but with the distinction that those suffering from it have a better „functioning“, a normal intelligence, and an almost normal development of the language.

Thanks Jake!

  2. Wow. Having been born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, Jacob’s photo in the sweatshirt caught my attention. The sweatshirt looked like it might be from IUPUI (Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis). Reading further I was surprised that it was in fact IUPUI, a small, recently founded collaboration between IU and Purdue, two Big Ten schools that are otherwise arch rivals. The fact that Jacob attended even at age 8 is a big feather in the cap of this school. Given all of the prestigious schools and programs he has and will be affiliated with it is amazing he still wears that sweatshirt. It is hard to imagine how he relates to the rest of society, but I wish him the best of luck and look forward to the contributions and discoveries he will make.

  4. I know a couple people with aspergers and if you just understand that they’re not machines and are actually probably pretty uncomfortable talking to you, it makes it easier. lol. I just make sure to be patient and kind and to not make them feel like I’m judging them. They’re brilliant guys, they just have no clue how to talk to people. We have that much in common lol.
