Magellano 500 years later: around the world in 2 years, 11 months and 17 days
Ferdinand Magellan departed 500 years ago from Spain to perform what would have been the first circumnavigation of the Earth. He was a Portuguese explorer and navigator, undertook the first circumnavigation of the globe in the service of the Spanish crown, and that journey lasted more than 2 years was rich of unexpected events and great discoveries.
Maganello was the first European to sail in the Pacific Ocean and it was he who gave it this name. Still today the name of Magellan carries two galaxies and a passage through Chile.
